Albrite Mourns the Loss of Co-Founder, Jack Zabel

Posted by darren in News on February 9th, 2010.

It is with great sadness that we annouce the passing of Albrite co-founder Jack Zabel. Jack passed away yesterday after a courageous battle with Alzheimers. Jack was 81. Jack was a life long entrepeneur who sold real estate and owned the Maple Leaf Restaurant, among other ventures, before starting Albrite with his younger brother Mark in 1970. A well liked and respected business man, Jack will be missed by his many friends in the community. Jack is survived by his wife Dorothy, his brother Mark, his sister Carolyn and his children David and Linda. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family at this difficult time.

  • I was sad to hear of Jack’s passing. I remember when he would
stop by Albrite ( on his way to the golf course) – he had a great smile
and a sense of humour to match. My thoughts & prayers are with the
    family.

  • I started working at Albrite in Aug. 1970. The partners worked long hours to get the business going. During the day, they made calls and, often at night, worked in the maintenance end, cleaning fixtures and replacing lamps.

Jack was a happy-go-lucky fellow, always smiling. His favourite answer to the question,”How are you doing?” was “If I was any better, I couldn’t stand it.” He was also a man of utmost ingegrity.

Jack and Mark had many well known Victoria businessmen for friends who would regularily pop in just to pass the time of day or lend a word of support. I can honestly say that they were all gentlemen. This said a lot for type of man Jack was and Mark, too.

I loved my job and never wanted to move on as I felt I was part of the “family”.
My thoughts and those of Des are with you all.

Happy golfing, Jack. Hugh will be happy to see you.
